Amadeus brought in revenue of €917.2 million in the first quarter of 2022 - its highest since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
The Spain-based distribution and technology giant is still suffering from the impact of the coronavirus, with the quarter's revenue pegging at 65% of the same metric in Q1 2019, but CEO Luis Maroto says there is "consistent improvements in air bookings and passengers boarded" for the company.
Adjusted profit came in at €95 million for the January to March period in 2022, up by 15% on the previous quarter and representing 28% of what was achieved in Q1 2019.
EBITDA is around 50% of Q1 2019 levels at €295.8 million.
Air distribution revenue soared by 155% compared to the corresponding quarter in 2021 to €446 million, with the airline IT and hosting business bringing in €313 million (up 47% year-over-year but only 26% of Q1 2019's recorded figure).
Hospitality and other revenue streams brought in €158 million, just 15% of the same reporting line in Q1 2019.
Amadeus secured total air bookings of 91.7 million in Q1 2022, compared to 33.8 million in the same period in 2021, although this is still some way short (44%) of 2019's number.
Likewise for passengers boarded, the number of passengers boarded across the system in the latest quarter was 264 million, representing 40% of the same quarter in 2019 but up by 108% on 2021.
Referencing progress in the air distribution segment, Amadeus says: "The continued recovery of our bookings across regions, supported by market share gains, combined with an improving revenue per booking performance (as the weight of local bookings continues to decline towards its pre-pandemic level) were the main drivers of revenue in this segment."
North America now accounts for 36% of all Amadeus air bookings, with Western Europe bringing in 27%, Middle East and Africa at 13% and Asia Pacific at 8%.
This marks a sizeable shift in the regionality of the business, with North America providing 21% of air bookings in Q1 2019.
